Are you with me (Jasper Hale fan fic) by Ivy Parker

What if Jasper had met Bella first?

Oh Alice, you wicked little thing. It was on Jasper Hale's breath as he walked away from her. "I'm tired of this." He breathed under his breath.

She was a control freak as far as he was concerned. And he hated to argue with her or she just might say he was freaking out. Then the injections would come, and he'd go numb. He shook his head. He just needed to be away from her. He was not her child. It was all beginning to wear him down. Didn't he know why he'd stuck around so long? She had a pretty face and he'd missed valentines and the like over the centuries. He thought she'd do the trick. But maybe he was just trying to trick her all along. It was enough to make him want to scream. Maybe go in a rage. But, she had to see, he had some control. He did. She just needed a little faith in him. Yes, faith.

But it was fate that brought them there by the tree in the fork in the road. There she was. Kind of angst and definitely feeling sorry for herself.

"You..you..." Jasper squinted hard, trying to think what to say before he sounded like a backwater idiot who might sound like a zombie. "You're on the cross country team, right?"

"Cross country team?" She winced back. "I'm not very athletic."

"I see." He introduced himself then as Jas. She barely said she was Bella. But he smiled as if maybe it might compel  her, and it did. He bit the very edge of his bottom lip. He smiled more. "Walking is just as good."

"Yeah, its really beautiful here, when its not raining." She shrugged. They walked together then.

"Jas, are you on the cross country team?" Bella asked after awhile when the quiet was just too much and nature was not helping either of them.

"Yes." He said as if that would be the thing to say. He listened for Alice. Maybe she knew this was going to happen, or maybe he messed up what was going to happen. He slightly grinned. All those special powers she talked of ..of the others. What a load shit, he thought. Perhaps he was a bit self centered now, but she'd vexed him. It was time to get on with his life, not some toy Alice left on the shelf half the time. He had needs, too.

"Why are you smiling?" She couldn't help but smile back as if she was impressed with what she saw in him.

"I want to be on the team." He admitted. "But, well, the family I'm staying with, think I'm not ready. I'm amazed I even get to school."

She shot a look at him as if maybe he should go to the police or something about the matter. He didn't want her thinking he'd been kidnapped. But maybe. Slightly.

"They mean well." He was a bit sleepy about it. "I mean, well, you see, Alice found me that one time, when, she ran away. And then she was all, oh, I can't live without him, blah..blah..blah..." His grin was kind of devilish then as if he might be up to no good, and he could slip into his old ways. "And they let me stay."

"But what happened?" Bella seemed concerned.

"God, what didn't happen?" He chuckled, giving way his impish glare. "We had this spread in a Goth magazine, but they didn't think I was quite goth enough because of the blond hair. So they dyed it black, but it turned red. And we didn't get any money out of it, for her college fund. They say I'm not model material." He shook his head as if he could care less. After all, he was just an old cowboy at heart.

"Um, I dunno, Jas. I'd buy a magazine with your picture in it." She shrugged as if he should know. Jasper sighed. The more she used his name..he knew it was working.  The compellsion Oh, it was working like a charm.

"Really?" Jasper winced then. "Well, anyway, I don't even care about college." Honestly, there was one thing on his mind at the moment and it was right here. The desire to be with Bella.

She smelled like lilacs of summer. It was a sleepy, but a tantalizing feeling. He'd never been quite this warm in a long time. It was rather intoxicating.

They walked down the dirt road, past the fields as the thickets were turning darker. He took her hand. Perhaps it would help. Something thoughtful like that. Yes, thoughtful. He had to be thoughtful. Perhaps his many charms would find her to turn this, his way. She was a cold one to warm up. But if he could conjure up a bit of old magic and nostalgia of what she might be missing in this world. So be it.

"Could I ask a favor?" He hesitated. It had been a long time since he'd used any southern charm. Maybe he was losing it. Maybe Alice had taken it away. "Could I come home with you?" He stared at her deeply then and willed it.

Just like a fast forward moment. ..Bella invited him in to her home. Jasper, could hardly stand it. This was amazing. He didn't think that sort of power existed. And he had it all along, but Alice kept telling him to never use it. Never. Just like he'd never be her lover, either.

No, it was an intellectual game she was after, when it came to Alice. It was lingo like, "I challenge you to a dual of the mind. Can you tell me the fifty states, backwards." Which left him feeling his brain had gone gooey, and it was impossible to know the answers. He never wanted to spell another word backwards in his life.

No, this..this was much more delectable.

"Thank you." He whispered in Bella's ear. "You'll never know I'm here." So many places he could fade into. The dark pantry for starters. The wallpaper even. Oh, the attic. They could make plans in the attic. He'd found his room, already. Yes, he had it. He was not a newbie at this. He could control it beautifully. No blood yet.

As if this could make him high, already. Not really. He was not a fool. He just had to be a wolf of some sort waiting for little Red Ridinghood. Speaking of that, there was that silly boy toy Jake to worry about.

"You hate him." His little whispers invaded her memories soon enough. She could be reading government or history, but he knew he had to be on her mind. "You know, you only want me." It was quite devilish. When he was alone, he was filled with a sweet pleasure to manipulate what he wanted. "What ever you do...don't let Alice in."

As it was, it was like cat and mouse with Alice. Was it that he was purely evil? No, she never said it, but he could feel it in her restlessness when he was around her. He was her science experiment. So petty, he now thought as he had the pleasure of his own company, and a watchfulness over Bella.

Yes, it was true, he purely needed a companion. And Bella was it because he did know her smile. He did know her wants and it was a delightful notion that he was in her home now.

"See, isn't it brilliant?" He spoke in a British accent. It was funny to him, too. He didn't know he had one. So long forgotten as he peered at Bella in her bed. His finger traced down her shoulder to where something magical might begin. Oh, just a little nibble here. And there. Possibly, like getting under her skin. They'd be one... in no time.

Sure, he'd had his fun in taverns, bars and other drinking establishments with barmaids, show girls and other rowdy bunches. But this was sublime. A slow kill, perhaps. Yet, he couldn't call it that. No. No he couldn't. It would be a new beginning.

"I want you to eat something amazing. Like cheese cake with cherries. Oh, and don't forget the best rib-eye you can find, my love." He could taste it on his tongue, already. Sort of a farewell. Definitely something to savor. He did have to watch that girlish figure of his.

Well, he'd will it. It would be done. There was no stopping him now. His cold heart was growing stronger. It was a beautiful thing. Starve her with his love, and then feast upon it.

"Are you with me, Bella?" His smile grew more of mischief. All she needed was a black bow for her hair. Oh, it was coming. "Are you with me, Bella?" Really, there was no need to answer. She was his puppet now.

SKINS American-style

This January MTV gives you SKINS American style. Instead of Sid we have Stan (Daniel Flaherty with a very slight Michael Cera thing going on). The first episode is exactly the same script as the original version. A few changes. No Maxxie due to Americanized TV not wanting to focus too much on a gay character which is rather unfortunate. Sure we have a few gay characters popping up on American TV, but they leave them rather sheltered and not much ever happens for their character, like on Gossip Girl. Yet we may have Tea (Sofia Black-D-Elia) to the rescue on the show as the central lesbian.

Cadie is Britne Oldford

Fortunately, the creators of the original SKINS are in control, father son team, the Elsleys. I'm really not sold on the endeavor quite yet. The creators are known to find raw talent for the roles. But I (maybe Daniel) just can't see anyone in the bunch being the next teen star. But who knows. We will just have to watch and find out. Personally, I loved the original. It was a great group they casted to get the ball rolling. Too bad they couldn't find someone equal of Nicholas Hoult to run with this show.  I was hoping for someone more teen show calibur like Munro Chambers or Carter Jenkins even Austin Butler might have had you drawn in, than these newbies. Cassie (now Cadie is African American.) Granted, I really think Britne can handle the role.

Something to look forward too this January on MTV.

He's baaaaack....Devon Sawa

Well, I dunno where he really went actually. Rumor has it Devon had had some domestic problems and ended up in jail for a while. It could be false. Who knows, maybe it was the only place that could keep him safe.

He says..and this is a quote from IMDB "There are tons of things that have been written about me on the Internet that are total crap. I'll go on to these fan sites and think, where the hell did that come from? All of a sudden I have two gerbils and four goldfish? I mean, really, two gerbils? And they're named Coke and Pepsi or something like that? Come on!"

I had this poster in my room.

Anyway, I've loved him and Chrissi Ricci since NOW AND THEN (& even before in Casper). Yes, I was fascinated by his amazing rant in SLC PUNK with his major mohawk. He was endearing even in Idle Hands. Even in not so great roles like Around the Fire I still was happy to watch Devon Sawa. No matter what. I even own Slackers. And how can we not forget 'Stan' from the 'Stan' video of Eminem's with Dido.

Devon & Maggie Q.

Now he's Owen Elliot on CW Nikita. Its an action pack show that's perfect for him. When I first saw him in Nikita, I was thinking Oscar winner Jeremy Renner. But as soon as he opened his mouth, I knew exactly who he was. The only thing that might make Devon Sawa better would be a British accent. I'm glad he never wore braces. something about his teeth gives him character. Perhaps, it projects the voice.

Anyway, he's back and has ENDURE coming out soon, too.

Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows prt 1. -review

OK, I'm not a fanatic or anything. But we can all agree its a rather grim film. And there was definitely not enough Jamie Campbell Bower. See, I knew the first time I ever saw him in Sweeney Todd, this guy should do some major films. I can't hardly wait for him in Camelot. And well, if you read any of my story blogs, I picture him in so many different characters.

Anyway, I can just say Rupert Grint saved the film for me. I'm always expecting more out of Tom Felton. But I'm beginning to think I'm expecting more out of Draco. That's it. He's such a weenie, I know next movie is when he'll make his mark.

Although, it felt like a very sad commercial just to get us to Part 2. Naturally, there were some fun effects, but again, who saved the day, good old Ron. So yes, if you are a Rupert Grint fan, you might want to watch this one several times before part 2 comes out.

everybody's doing it by Ivy Parker

Clare thought there had to be a mix up. A complete idiot mix up at the party. She didn't even want to come, but Lynsey was home from break. And she said Jesse would be there. She just didn't know he would be with somebody else.

Well, Clare wasn't going to even look at him. Jesse wasn't her boyfriend, anyway. Not really. Almost, but it never happened.

They'd done The Hobbit the musical together and they were wolves. She thought he was high the first time they met because all he wore were black panty hose and a tight black T, while she'd made her mother go all around town just to find special ballet leggins for her, and there he was with no underwear. She knew he was weird even if he possibly could be the most beautiful thing ever.

Clare shook the thought of wondering then..if..was he coming on to me, she wondered back then. She winced hard and grabbed her a beer, just like everyone else. She wanted to find someone at this party. Fast.

Of course, thoughts of Jesse raced through her head. God, she hoped he wouldn't notice her, but when she looked at the girl, he was hugging so close, she thought she was looking at herself. Clare shivered, slightly. That was a ridiculous thought. No way could Jesse be seeing someone who looked like her. Really. No, for starters Jesse didn't date. She could go down the list. This guy got kicked out of the University. He was high there too.

God, why did she even want to think about him. He wasn't that great. Clare bit her bottom lip. She turned her back to them. It was so cold out by the bond fire. But she didn't want to get to close. She needed to be in her comfort zone. Besides, who remembered her, anyway. She was only head of props that one time. And everybody called her a bitch because she did have a job to do. Props could not go missing during Shakespeare.

No, she was never the star of anything. Although, when she was little, people used to tell her she looked like Hermine from Harry Potter. Oh, the girl that looked like Hermine. So fare and honest. It could be worse. The bitch from Props.

"What are you doing these days, Clare?" Someone said in the dark. He was farther back than she was at the party.

"You know," Clare hugged herself tight. She put the beer to her lips and made an imaginary swallow. "Not much."

"Well, you're going to K-State." He chuckled. Finally, she saw his face come into the light. Dark, brooding and a reluctant looker. She had no idea who this guy was. But he knew her.

Clare remained even lipped and just stared at his dark eyes. She just couldn't place him. This was freaking her a bit. She looked around to see if Lynsey was anywhere, but she wasn't. Some had gone on down to the river. She wasn't really brave enough to go. She looked back at Jesse and the girl. They were no longer there. She heard laughter then. Someone was drunk. Clare rolled her eyes. Why was she here?

"How about you, what are you doing?" She didn't know what else to ask.

He just smiled. "Remember, when I used to life guard." He grinned more. "You lost your top that time when you dove off the diving board."

Clare winced hard. Nobody knew that, did they? He knew? He was the life guard that summer? She'd dove deep into the water so quick and found the blue halter top at the bottom of the pool. She didn't think anyone had noticed that day. No one said anything. No one laughed. No one even looked.

"I don't know why you didn't ever try out to be a life guard. I kept hoping you would." He shrugged slightly with a smile. He put his beer bottle to his lips then, but he didn't really take a sip, either.

"You still a life guard?" She gave him a serious look. He was fit enough.

"Naw." He gave her an even lip then. "Still work for city, just in maintenance now." He sounded like it was temporary, but he'd been there half a year.

"You want to dance?" He asked.

"Oh, yeah, sure." Clare smiled. She looked around. Everyone else was doing their own thing. He put his arms around her waist, she put her arms around his neck. They moved slowly in the sand. Clare wasn't even sure there was music to dance too. It was awkward. But he was close. Why wouldn't he tell her his name?

"Uh, you, you know who Jesse is with?" Clare finally asked.

"My ex-girlfriend." He croaked slightly.

"Oh. I don't-" Their circles were getting smaller. They stumbled and luckily fell on the soft sand together.

"You're drunk, aren't you?" He was hugging her.

"No. Really. I'm not." She couldn't help but smile. She felt OK in his arms. After all, she guessed he could save people. Still. If they were drowning.

"Yeah. Sure." He didn't believe her as he brushed a little sand out of her hair.

"Tell me your name, will you?" Had she really forgotten everyone since going off to college?

"Clare." He laughed so. "Its me, Zach. Remember, we had gym together? You thought the gay guy wasn't as gay as he said he was, because he pinched your butt."

Clare laughed then. Maybe if this went well, she'd be coming home more often.

Pascal Comelade

I accidentally came across one of his free samplers on Amazon. It was brilliant. I have never heard jazz quite like this. Some might call it an alternative jazz or French Jazz. What ever, it has a unique essence to it. Very rich with a happy mood that might make you think of gypsies or party goers having a wonderful and sexy time in Paris. Who knows, one of his songs might provoke spontaneity..anywhere. And then it might be part of the soundtrack of your life. Oh, I know my imagination is possibly a little off kilter to everyone elses. But his sound can put a smile on your face.

He perhaps started with electronic music and yet he is king of the acoustic, bring in peculiar instruments to find a tune to, as well. Many of the instruments are just toys.

Comelade was born in Montpellier, France. He spent some time in Barcelona, as well, perhaps part of his musical journey. He has collaborated with many singers and musicians from diverse genres of music including Robert Wyatt, Dani, Faust, Christophe Miossec, Toti Soler, Jac Berrocal, Pierre Bastien and P.J. Harvey to mention just a few.

Pecan Pie

Oh, we always have to have it at Thanksgiving..or sometime, during the holidays.

Ingredients
Dough:

    * 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    * 2 teaspoons sugar
    * 1/8 teaspoon salt
    * 1/2 cup cold butter (1 stick), diced
    * 1 large egg, lightly beaten
    * Flour, for rolling the dough

Filling:

    * 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
    * 1 cup packed light brown sugar
    * 3/4 cup light corn syrup
    * 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
    * 2 cups chopped toasted pecans
    * 1 to 2 tablespoons bourbon
    * 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
    * 3 eggs, lightly beaten

Directions

Make the dough by hand: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Using your fingers, work the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles yellow cornmeal mixed with bean-sized bits of butter. (If the flour/butter mixture gets warm, refrigerate it for 10 minutes before proceeding.) Add the egg and stir the dough together with a fork or by hand in the bowl. If the dough is dry, sprinkle up to a tablespoon more of cold water over the mixture.

Alternatively, make the dough in a food processor. With the machine fitted with the metal blade, pulse the flour, sugar, and salt until combined. Add the butter and pulse until it resembles yellow cornmeal mixed with bean-sized bits of butter, about 10 times. Add the egg and pulse 1 to 2 times; don't let the dough form into a ball in the machine. (If the dough is very dry add up to a tablespoon more of cold water.) Remove the bowl from the machine, remove the blade, and bring the dough together by hand.

Form the dough into a disk, wrap with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, at least 1 hour.

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough with a rolling pin into a 12-inch circle about 1/8-inch thick. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch pie pan and trim the edges, leaving about an extra inch hanging over the edge. Tuck the overhanging dough underneath itself to form a thick edge that is even with the rim. Flute the edge as desired. Freeze the pie shell for 30 minutes.

Set separate racks in the center and lower third of oven and preheat to 400 degrees F. Put a piece of parchment paper or foil over the pie shell and fill with dried beans or pie weights. Bake on a baking sheet on the center rack until the dough is set, about 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and lift sides of the parchment paper to remove the beans. Continue baking until the pie shell is lightly golden brown, about 10 more minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F.

While the crust is baking make the filling: In medium saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, and stirring constantly, continue to boil for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and stir in the nuts, bourbon, and the vanilla. Set the mixture aside to cool slightly, about 5 minutes. (If the crust has cooled, return it to the oven for 5 minutes to warm through.) Whisk the beaten eggs into the filling until smooth. Put the pie shell on a sheet pan and pour the filling into the hot crust.

Bake on the lower oven rack until the edges are set but the center is still slightly loose, about 40 to 45 minutes. (If the edges get very dark, cover them with aluminum foil half way during baking.) Cool on a rack. Serve slightly warm or room temperature.

Jennifer DeMille is appearing tonight on ABC's BETTER WITH YOU airing at 8:30pm!!!

Dane DeHaan

If you haven't caught Dane's performance as Jesse on In Treatment, well, you haven't seen one of the best performances on TV. His Jesse is the troubled gay teen who thinks his mother hates him, or is their more than one personality inside him, waiting to get out. He is mesmerizing.

Dane is from the theater. Dane received rave reviews and an Obie Award (Off-Broadway's highest honor) for his portrayal of Evan Shelmerdine, a lonely High School student, in Annie Baker's The Aliens at the Rattlestick Playwright's Theatre.

His debut  feature film was in the indie film Amigo with Chris Cooper. He's been in Law & Order on TV. In a relationship with Anne Wood  who is on Brothers & Sisters.

He's definitely one to watch for. Just a bit Leonardo DeCapri mixed in with a little Michael Pitt. He's certainly a scene stealer.

Julia Morris Has Her Own Film Festival!!!!

Hey Good Lookers, Just wanted to let you know that if you haven't done so as yet... there are only 24 days left to make a film for jmofest.

The prizes are AAWWWESOME (take a look http://juliamorris.com/jmofest/ ) and the films and photos are loads of fun but I know they are NOTHING in comparison to what I know you could make.

You can see what I mean at http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jmofest+2010&aq=f

I am no longer the judge as the competition has become huge with sponsors (hence the 5 grand camera as a first prize) ... so now the judges will be made up of a panel of people from the Breast Cancer Foundation in Aus, Canon, Gary Pitts (who donated the insane prizes) and Dan.

So it's not too late to enter...

The film festival is rocking and we are having a big screening night on Monday December 13th and the Comedy Store in Sydney.  It will have the 10 best films shown and I have coaxed four of the best comedians in the country to come and perform....so happy days!!  All the money raised is going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia."

Jack & Diane

I first heard of this film, years ago now..I guess. Right after the movie Juno came out. It was going to star Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby. Ellen would be Jack. Olivia would be Diane. Catch was, they'd be lesbians on the run in the film. Kind of an awakening film for both characters. It was to be a very indie film. Here was the buzz about it in 2007.

Then it seemed forgotten.

Accidently, I had to look at Dane Dehaan's page on imdb. And there it was Jack and Diane. I was so happy. Yeah.

Well, it turns out there is no Ellen nor Olivia in the movie. Now its staring Juno Temple. Maybe it always had, and someone just had their information wrong on the Internet. Also Jenna Melone will star. In this feature Juno will play Diane while Elvis Presley's grand-daughter, Riley Keough will play Jack.

Storyline: Jack and Diane, two teenage girls, meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane's charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack's tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.

Lesbians gone werewolves. And to think Cat People was about lesbians too. Of course, you'd never know it in the 1942 with French actress Simone Simone. But of course, film has come along way then with touchy subject matter.

Jack and Diane is filming now. Keep it in mind this movie in 2011

a Jasper Hale Moment

OK...so from Twilight we have Team Jacob. Team Edward. Now how about Team Jasper?

Granted, I was not a fan of what they did to Jasper's flashbacks in this last film. It felt a little campy to me. Perhaps I'm just too hard on Jackson Rathbone's acting ability. I mean, hey, he might be amazing if he'd gone to that acting school he had the heads up for in England. Only, he got a call back to something and well, that's history, or so it would seem. And then the music thing took a hold of him. Oh well, whatever.

Still, he shows some signs that he could be totally the one to watch instead of Jacob or Edward. I would go if there was a movie just about Jasper. See, the moment I saw Twilight, I thought, there's our Edward. It should be Jackson Rathbone. Not Robert.  You could just see Jack nipping at the bite to have an onscreen moment, with anybody. Hey, I would have thought it would have been grand to even have a Jasper and Edward moment.

I KNOW..that's not even in the book. I just have a friend who writes Jasper and Edward fan fic. Granted my other friend went..."ooooh..that's gross, aren't they brothers?" Not really. Its more of a fraternity, isn't it? OK, I'm sure I'm not making anyone giggle, at the moment. Sigh.

If I were going to write about Jasper, I would write about him before he turned. Seriously, though, I do find it a little silly how you know who comes about, playing this vampire genre up. I like the Vampire Diaries history better. But then again... Anne Rice is the mistress of all Vampire fiction aside from the guy who came up with Dracula. Really. Seriously, she knows her vampires, well..she even said she had lunch with, sometimes.  Their woes, sadness, dread and life-styles. Anne even knew what the wall paper looked like in their rooms. She really gives this mood of possibly where the idea of being a vampire actually came from. That disease, of long ago that wasted young people, who found themselves growing pale and bleeding over the simplest things, into their hankerchief. I mean, this is what the sorrow needs to come from when a story like this is being built.

I was reading from someone's real-life journal that she'd written just after the civil war. And she and her family had moved to this new town, and were waiting for their house to be built, twenty miles away or so..in the country. And she met this girl with Tuberculosis. She played up on her illness. And it seemed many males fancied her. It was as if she made a romance of it. It was very interesting. Thankfully, the person who wrote the journal didn't catch the disease. Instead. she waited five years to get married and went in a caravan to Denver where she was a solider's wife and ended up being a nurse in the Calvary.

Anyway, maybe we'll get a book about Jasper. And hopefully, it'll be a worthy read. Go here to sign the petition. Jasper Hale should have his own book.

Ellie Goulding

She's considered a Brittish pop-princess already. As of yet, I don't think in the states..we've yet to get her full CD. Just an EP from where you get your tunes at. But I hear its coming soon.

Starry Eyed was the song that got me interested in her. Then THE WRITER which Goulding says is the most personal song she's written. "It’s about how you’d do anything and change absolutely everything about yourself if necessary, just to be noticed by this one person." She's quoted about the writer song.

Goulding, who is from Herford England, began playing the clarinet and guitar and writing her own pop-inspired music at the age of nine. While attending the University of Kent to study drama, and exposed to electronic music, she developed her sound initially with the help of Frankmusik on the track "Wish I Stayed", and then later with Starsmith, who went on to become her chief collaborator and primary producer of her debut album, Lights. This resulted in her leaving university after two years of study under a gap year arrangement with her tutors, and moving to West London. It might a much longer gap now.

She has a unique voice, rather sweet and romantic that blends well with the electronic mixes in her music. And she looks pretty cool in glasses, too.

Five Days Apart by Chris Binchy a book review

This is the second novel from best selling author Chris Binchy (nephew of acclaimed author Maeve Binchy) who's actually a chef.

Its a college story that takes place, I guess in Dublin, that's where he's from. He's in the tradition of Nick Hornby and Roddy Doyle. Really, I could picture someone like Nic Hoult and Tom Sturridger in the parts. Probably Nic(David's friend) as the guy who gets the girl, Camille at the party, even if he's trying to help tongue-tied David (Tom) out.

It's just, I had a problem with the dialogue. I was expecting something with more bite, I guess. It seemed genuinely generic to me. As well as the characters. I guess I was hoping for someone of Skins magnitude.  And there is Camille. I don't know what was so great about her. She really doesn't say much when they first meet. She's just a girl. Evidently, a pretty girl...that David wants.

Then you get the impression with those party girls..when they are sauced, you better make your move quick or forget you.

So yes, you have a triangle. A girl comes between 2 guys...and their friendship is torn. A lot like Cherry Bomb (movie) with Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan. A real modern day tale, I suppose. Unlike those old Irish folk song tales where a stranger comes to the fair, fancies a farm girl, bangs her in the barn and leaves. Usually, for good and she's left with a kid to raise. A lot like in Felicia's Journey written by William Trevor which has to be my favorite novel, of his. But that to is more of a modern version. The girl goes searching for her man and ends up in the hands of an old serial killer.

Don't worry nothing that twisted happens here, this story is more like Doing It from Melvin Burgess. Unfortunately, 5 Days Apart lacks all the boy talk about girls and dares and sleeping with your teacher and fat girls that you don't want your friends to know about. Burgess' is a young adult novel while this is adult. Yet I find Burgess much more literary. Although, his novels can be rather gritty and perhaps even earthy.

Still I'm glad I came across this novel. I hope it'll be a movie. Maybe Rupert, or Robert or even Nic will be in it. I can only hope. Or maybe when I find the time..I'll just write my own story.
